Is online training an acceptable way to take the required training?
Yes, but not just any old training will do. The training must conform to the ministry requirements. The CANGUARD Security & Investigations training meets the ministry requirements.
I don't have an Ontario Security Guard or Private Investigator License. What do I need to do?
As of April 15, 2010, the Ontario Ministry of Community Safety & Correctional Services Training & Testing Regulations are in effect. This means that in order to work as a Security Guard or Private Investigator, you must first obtain your Security Guard or Private Investigator License by completing the following:
- Complete the mandatory training course for either Security Guard, Private Investigator or both.
- Pass the ministry test for Security Guard, Private Investigator or both, provided by Serco DES Inc. (location you are tested for your Ontario Driver's License).
- Apply for the Security Guard, Private Investigator or Dual Licence.
How long do I have access to the course?
365 days from date of registration - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Is online training as effective as traditional in-class training?
Yes, in fact it has been proven to be more effective in some cases. Although you are not physically in a brick-and-mortar classroom, you train in an online or "virtual" classroom. If you are taking the Online Security Guard or Private Investigator Training course, this means that you will be using a blended approach to learning increasing your chances of success.
The reason this method of training is more effective is because, amongst other reasons, we utilize several different approaches to learning that are student focused. This includes a multi-media approach to learning as well as testing along the way to ensure you understand the material being taught.
